Military Schools
What is the first thing you think about when you think
of a military school? Do you picture children dressed up and in
training to fight a war? Some people may think of military school this
way, but are a long ways off from the truth. Military schools have a
long history in the United States. Americans placed a great deal of
effort in stressing how important a background of military training can
help a teen, once they become a young adult and are providing for
themselves, or for their own families. The best way to receive this
training is by sending them to military schools. After Viet Nam,
military schools had a run of bad luck and the public gave these
schools less support than they were use to. After a while things begin
to change and started looking up for these types of schools again.
Today with a new understanding of what a military school stands for,
they have became quite popular again. A military school does not
teach a child how to fight a war, but it is the best training a child
can receive when preparing for real life.
What Military Schools Have to Offer
Have you ever wondered how a military school could help your child? One
way is by teaching them how to be a leader. These schools influence the
development of a child’s personal discipline; one way they do this is
by following strict rules. They encourage every student to show
leadership, even in the classrooms. They encourage cadets to try and
achieve the highest academic rank possible. This is the way they become
leaders in the classrooms. By the time a cadet has reached
upperclassmen status, they are expected to have made it as a leader at
some point. Being a leader and being in charge is a characteristic of a
military school that is very important. A military school can help
build a persons character, to help make them better citizens. They will
help to build moral values like honesty, and integrity. Military
schools are great for the child that is already excelling in these
areas. The child that already shows great discipline and works as a
team member would benefit greatly from a military school.
Military Schools General Rules
These types of schools all have very strict guidelines that must be
followed, no exceptions. Most schools start at 6 am sharp, and all
cadets are expected to be in formation fully dressed in their uniforms,
with their boots polished. Girls that are in a military school are not
allowed to wear bright nail polish, or lots of makeup. Their hair has
to be either put up in buns, or cut above the collar of their uniforms.
Most military schools will have their cadets called to formation before
allowing them to have their meals.
Privileges are earned in a military school, if you want something you
have to work for it. If a cadet wants to play a video game or go
to town on the weekend, they have to earn this privilege. To earn these
privileges, a cadet has to earn rank; you give nothing, you get
nothing. Military schools do not allow any types of misbehaving, this
includes fighting, the use of any drug, or sexual activities either in
the school or when on leave to go into town. Being able to work
together as a team is a requirement that is necessary from every cadet
in a military school.
Military Schools Not for Everyone
Military schools can be great for some children and help them to excel
as an adult, but these schools are not for everyone. Some children
would not be able to deal with this type of disciplinary school. Any
child with the following problems probably would not do well in a
military school. If they:
- Deify authorities
- Disobeys rules regularly
- Have disorders like depression or ADHD
- Abuse drugs or alcohol
Children with these types of problems would do better in a specialty
school that is equipped to handle children with disciplinary problems.
