I have been actively looking into finding some sort of transcript for this school. No one has any info on them. Currently, most colleges don't eccept HS diapolmas anymore. I have 77 crdeits and still need my HS transcript to get my student loan money. If anyone has found any information out please contact me. Try any other schools you have attended through the years. My brother went to this school this year. The school's name was changed to Marian prep. He showed up for school like any other day but this this day there was a note that they were closed. My mom called the school and left several messages but never heard back from the school. Come to fine out that the school was no longer open and my mom was out all that money that she had paid. My mother called the board of education and she was told that there has been alot of complaints about this school. I was told that you could get your high school transcripsa from the Chicago Board of education. The phone number is 773-535-7722. I hope this information is helpful.

As part of being a activist for this WHOLE situation What the previous person said is somewhat true, the fact that marian prep just closed down, but the chicago board of education DOES NOT have the transcrpits because they are not a CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOL!! The board of education does not have them because they were never accepted as an accredited High School, there for it was like opening a home school, that essientially anyone can do. It is not illegal and the only way to solve your problem is like me to hire an attorney or get together as a whole and start really complaining to the Attorney General's office.

hi everyone, I just recieved a confirmation letter from the State's Attorney General and I will have some info to tell you guys as soon as by the end of the week!!! Its unbelievable. The problem with Cosmopolitan is that they never turned in transcripts for there students because they were not accredited. Meaning....The diploma means nothing anyway. The Illinois State Board of Education doesn't recognize this school as a school. I spoke to someone in the same office and they said these people disappeared into thin air and there is no record of any of us getting a diploma.

I would like to know some more information about Marin prep, like how anyone else heard about it and when was the last date anyone attended, because just like many of you I have a family memeber that attended marin and was just weeks away from graduating when he was told that the school was only going to be closed for a week because of a gas leak but it turns out it was all a lie. The school was being run by minnimum wage employees and I doubt the teachers were even accredited. I had Mr. Lawrence back in 1985 who claimed he had been abduted by aliens not just once but many times. With me red flags started going up even as a 17 year old. In english Mr. Rappaold had us write a poem and read it in front of the class. After I read my poem he told everyone it was about smoking weed. Nothing could have been further from the truth and I could not believe a teacher would act that way in front of a class. Where did these people come from? Better yet, where did they go?

I went to this shcool in 2001 and graduated I did receive my transcripts from this school. Actually I received multiple transcripts. I also went to college after I graduated at Moraine Valley in Palos then transferred to Harold Washington. I actually just had a problem with this school when I went to apply for the Cook County Sheriff's test. They told me that this school is not recognized by the state of Illinois, which I do not understand because then how could I have gone to college and through life with out ever having a problem. I do plan to find out exactly what happened to this school and how I can rectify this situation. If it comes to be that this was all a hoax I plan on filing a lawsuit and getting reimbursed. My advice to everyone that is looking for their transcripts is that you forget about ever getting them and just obtain a G.E.D. I know that it sucks but there really are not any other options for the simple reason that you just don't know how long of a process all of this is going to be. Closed School Transcripts

I came across this information on the web: All private business and vocational schools are required to keep permanent records suitable for transcript purpose for fifty (50) calendar years after the student has left the school. If you need a copy of your transcript, you should contact the school you attended. In the event the school no longer exists, contact our closed school records by writing to the Illinois State Board of Education, Private Business and Vocational Schools, Closed School Records, 100 North First Street, Springfield, IL 62777 or by fax to 217/524-8750 to submit a written request for a transcript. All requests must be in writing. Please include the name of the student, school name, social security number, date of birth, year attended or graduated and address to where transcript is to be sent. My aunt and I both attended this school. We both thought we graduated in 1985 (21 years ago). She called me at work this morning tyring to locate a phone number for them as a new job she is starting on May 1st is asking for her transripts. I went online and this is the web site I discovered. I too will try to contact Pam Zekman. This is ludicrous. How could they operate for 20+ years and no one catch on. I am sure that thousands of people have gone to this school over the years. Has anyone even received theirs? I graduated in Dec. 99' I did receive my diploma and about a year later when I wanted to enroll to continue my education I called and asked for my transcripts, waited a month and called again only to get the "school" machine, left a msg. god knows how many time and to this day, I'm still empty handed and frustrated only to find out that this "school" isn’t even recognized by the board of Ed. Hi everyone I am another Graduate of Cosompolitan prep. I understand what everyone is going through, I have been searching the internet and came up with some of the same things everyone has talked about... however, I found it very interesting that they changed their name after being sued by a former teacher for discrimmination. Then all of a sudden they vanished. Now, I do have my diploma and just to give you guys some hope I did enter Harold Washington and was accepted into University of Phoenix . There is still hope please don't give up on your dreams. Dispute any backround check that says your diploma is no good. As one of the other writer stated it can be treated as a homeschool diploma. Seek out Colleges that accept Homeschoolers it is a lot of Schools that do. I know this doesn't solve the employment problem ... but if you explain to the employer ahead of time it may be the difference in you getting hire. I am praying for everyone who has been affected by this ... Don't give up! You earned your Diploma! Even though the School was not accredited does not mean it was illegal. I earned my credits and I don't intend to give up what I worked for because the School does not exist anymore. There are plenty of school close not all are cps.. should those people rip up their diplomas? I have faith that if we work together we will all come out winners. I am praying for all of us.

Cosmopolitan Prep School

I am totally in shock by what I have been reading. I attended Cosmopolitan 1963-64, when it was headed by the man who started it. I can't say enough about the man or the education I received there. Since the original head of the school was in his 50's, I'm guessing the school passed through several hands after he possibly retired, and the school went downhill. It was at one time a very good school and their reputation was excellent. Apparently, someone saw an opportunity to make money and took it.

This is horrible. I am in the exact same situation as everyone here. I graduated in 2000 and did get my 'diploma'. I got into Harper college ok, but I'm having problems with Roosevelt because I have no transcripts. I am filling out the form to complain to the Atty General, but in the meantime my life will be on hold. It's scary to think this is happening to so many. Everyone fill out a complaint form and write or call anyone you can. They are definitely NOT accredited. If I hear anything I'll leave a message, but it looks pretty bad. All I can say is explain the situation to the school or employer especially if they are in Illinois. It's not like we can't prove they duped us all.

Well if it makes you feel any better. My degree from the school was accepted. I have obtained my associates degree, and I am almost done with my Bachelors degree in Sociology. I am also in the state of Virginia now. I have applied to many police departments and etc and went extensive background checks and all came back fine. I was also offered numerous law enforcement positions but declined them, and accepted my current position in the telecommunication field that did complete background check also. So you can still use this as a valid diploma from a private school.

	Alot of schools are not accepting the diploma right now. Some do and others don't. I talked to the State Board of Ed and they are trying to retrieve the records, they said it could take years. The GED is the best bet at this time. I graduated back in 92 and I have to stop now and go back to HS.

I graduated from Cosmo in 1995, but it turned out to be a good move for me because after graduating in just 8 weeks or so, I joined the Air Force and started college overseas, which made me a "transfer" student when I came back to finish my degree here and at this point nobody cares what high school I graduated from. So, my recommendation is to find a loophole like I did and do what you can to find justice with Cosmo/Marine Prep in the mean time. But by all means get on with your lives.

I reread what I just posted and think its best to make clear that I do not condone what Cosmo/Marine Prep has done to any of you. If you were cheated then do what you have to do. It's just that when I enrolled in the school they made it clear to me that it wasn't accredited in the traditional sense and that certain employers, like the Cook county Sherrif's department, would'nt recognize my diploma. Ironically, the military refferred me to the school! And we have to admit that most public high schools are sorry. I hated dealing with the gangs at Schurz (not to mention the racist on location cops) and Gordon was just to expensive.

My boyfriend went to this school and thought he graduated but I guess not. He was working for o'hare airport and was in the middle of going to midway airport. when his high school was not varified. I was like what the hell is that. So now every number and office I call says they can't do nothing. My boyfriend went to this school and thought he graduated but I guess not. He was working for o'hare airport and was in the middle of going to midway airport. when his high school was not varified. I was like what the hell is that. So now every number and office I call says they can't do nothing. I would like to know if they weren't approved by the state board then how the hell can they stamp the "dipolma's" with the state boards seal??? Our next step is to contact the attorney general like someone said above. And to email the major and other people that should be able to help. I mean what the f***??? No one in the whole city can help out?? I find that hard to believe. This guy David Martinez?? Thats probably not even his real name either. I will look threw some old papers with my mother in law and see if she find something with some names on it. Even if they are teachers or whoever and then everyone can come down on them. I Can't Believe This

What the heck is going on? I graduated from Cosmo 08/18/82 and found out today that there may be no way for me to get my transcripts. I am transferring jobs right now and need my transcripts for education verification. Luckily, I previously worked for this company and they should have a copy of my transcripts on file in storage somewhere. I'm a licensed financial analyst and this may cause trouble with my license. The State and the NASD requires that you have at the least a high school diploma. So after 24 years am I forced to get a GED? I read all the comments above. Im suprized Im not the only one that got screwed. I know we could most definately make something happen if we work togethor. I spoke to a couple people from the numbers listed above. To me, its not the money or time I wasted (which is of course) but its the principle. I won't allow this to happen. marin prep / transcripts

I originally graduated from cosmopolitani in 1999. I later attempted to attend the electricians pre-appreticeship program and contacted the school(now known as marin prep) and was advised that I had not completed a class which was completely false . My tuition was paid in full but I was advised that it wasnt and that if I wanted to obtain my diploma and transcripts I would have to both pay the tuition and complete the class but records would show that I graduated h.s in 2004 instead of 1999. I did what was required in order to provide a future for myself and my child . When I returned to the school at 360 W randolph I was advised that it had been closed and was also given the same po box. I havent jheard anything since and missed out on my opportunity to attend the pre apprenticeship program. I both heart broken and exstatic to find this site and would like to help in any way possible to bring these criminals down. In the mean time I urge everyone to not let this discourage or dter them from their dreams , get that ged and "keep it movin".

My sister went to Cosmo Prep in 2000. She finally decided to go back to school but was asked for a copy of her transcripts/diploma and we couldn't contact the school...Come to find out that this is what I found when I looked on-line. Hi, i just read all of the comments. I atended the school in '98. However, when I have tried to call I got no answer, but for some reason the Three colleges and the job i worked for were able to verify the info I needed, I am not sure how it was done, but it was. My sister was also able tog et info on the school to send her son, unfortunatly she can not remeber how she found it though. Hopefully this works out for us all.

Hello to everyone. I came across a business card from one of the sales reps at Cosmo, well the one who helped me. His name is Ken Machala, and on the card that I found in my old things, it states the amount that was due and the date I met with him and time. One thing I do not understand is, on the card it says CPS Founded in 1934 and the Owner. So to my understanding CPS stands for Chicago Public Schools so why wouldnt they have our trans and any documentation on Cosmo? This really makes NO sence!!

I graduated from cosmo in June/1982. Before I started working at a hospital in August/2005.I faxed my request for my h.s. transcripts from cosmo to the IL State Bd. Of ED. fax # (217)524-8750 Attn Lisa -my request was for them to fax my transcripts to my employer's Human Resources Dept. I assumed the H.R. Dept received my transcripts because I was hired,however, now that I'm no longer working at the hospital. I "REALLY NEED" my transcripts to show proof I am a H.S. graduate!!! I attended this school in 1988 and have my transcripts. I never had any problems with any background checks. I need to know how I can be included in an class action suit. My brother along with several friends also attended this school. I will contact the attorney general and keep visiting this website. 	This school was located at 220 S State St. I remember in the middle of the summer we couldnt open the windows and there was no a/c. The windows had to be screwed closed because there were some kids in the class who would throw the desks out onto the street below. I have two copies of my transcripts and I thought something was wierd because they have different grades on each copy.

If any have formed a class-action already, add me to the class. I also have a useless diploma from them. email: prelaw@comcast.net. If not I suggest we file a class-action against the State of Illinois. This so called school was accredited at one point. Which shows that the State allowed them to operate under false pretense after the school stopped filing. Forget the complaints, nothing will come of them. Cospolitan Fake School

I attended Cosmo Prep back in the early 80's like 84 or 85 I am 41yrs old and Just finding out the I have to back to SCHOOL to get a H.S.!!! THATS TOTALY CRAZY! this is really a shame that this has gone on for so long. I graduated in sept of "83" I have worked quite a few jobs over the years and thank God none of them required my transcripts. Now I am trying to go back to school and to my surprise, no records to be found. This is so unfair. I just became aware of this site. I am calling our state rep. to see what can be done. 	I graduated in 1991. The only teacher I really remember was Fred Lessing. He was a great teacher and person. He sent my transcripts back in 2002 and I graduated college. No problem. 	We only have records prior to 1981. The school was not registered nor recognized by ISBE, therefore it was a private school. There is no way to obtain any records after 1981. The best thing you could do at this point is to go to your local community college and get a GED.

Boy, This all really seems just messed up. Maybe we can all open a private school and get paid to do nothing. At least I'm not the only one going through this. I agree with the people who say just move on and get your g.e.d. I will try to get a hold of a lawyer to see what they have to say about it then update everyone. I got the same address as everyone else. And by the way, I don't think anyone should send anybody else money for a copy of their transcripts when the "school" made the mistake. same thing happened to me and my sister (we graduated in 2001)...my sister attended south suburban college and actually got her transcripts, so did i for beauty school. later, my sister needed her transcripts again for another school, of course the number was disconnected. she contacted the board of education and was told the school no longer exists and they have no records from cosmopolitan prep (nor marian). please keep this page updated, we would also like to join together in filing a suit against this school! i lost my diploma and now i am unable to obtain another one, on top of all that the diploma is fucking invalid! we have to find our receipts from this fake school, lord knows where these receipts are.

high school diploma & transcripts

I accidentally came across this blog. I to graduated from Cosmo 1982, but 4 years ago I did get my transcripts from the Il. Dept. of Education so this all comes to a surprise to me! Here is some information not sure it will help anyone but I sure hope so, Chicago former student records 773-535-7722, Non public Schools ISBE 217-782-2948. Here is what I did sent a request for transcripts with name,school name,ss#,DOB,year attended or graduated and where I wanted them to send them. Il state board of education private business and vocational schools, closed school records 100 n First St Springfield, Il 62777 or you can fax to 217-524-8750 and you can call217-782-2948. Also I understand the school changed their name after i left to Marin Prepatory High School using po box 411376 chicago, il 60641. I call the Secretary of State and found out that the school dissolved in 2004. They gave two names Douglas Alan Pradun(Agent/Principal) and David Rodriguez(President). David Rodriguez left a forwarding address as 6712 W. 63rd St Chgo ,Il 60638, Douglas Alan Pradun left the 188 W. Randolph address as his forwarding address .Prior to that I found Radames Gonzales(secretary). My diploma is signed by a Lucille C Wendall as the Register. I also found a Dave Dorek who owned alot of companies in th 188 building. He and David Rodriguez are affiliated some way. David, Douglas and Radames are associated with other companies.(Management Information Center, Inc , K-C Enterprise Inc, NTC Of America, Inc and Barclay Gallies, Inc). I just finished reading all these post and i am FURIOUS...Up until today I didnt know I was NOT a High School graduate...I have my diploma which states I graduated in "96" I enrolled in college today but had to take another test "ABT" because they too told me Cosmo was not a creditted school. This was discouraging to me...because now is it going to be worth me going to college if I cant even get the job I want?? I too would like to be involved in ANY Lawsuit that is being filed.. I just wrote to NBC I was a student and now im am stuck because I want to start school on Oct 29th and i have to take the G.E.D, test on Sept 18th so that hopefully I might possibally be able to have my results in time to start class I like everyone else feels truly betrayed my mom payed for me to get my diploma my single mother who had to work so hard to pay for nothing my advice is get your G.E.D. just to be on the safe side Education is so important also write to NBC I thank you all for the advice I found on this site also if I am contacted from NBC I will let you all know

I graduated in 95. Back when it was on 220 S State. I was told when I signed up for classes, that there were certain schools that would not accept my H.S diploma. I was able to attend Harold Washington, Graduated from MacCormac college attended DePaul university and when I tried transferring to Roosavelt, I never had any problems. Oh and I also was in the army. The only time I was advised to get my GED was when I went to Robert Morris College. They told me that my diploma was not valid. But it wasn't a big suprise. What do you expect for 2,000.00 dollars and a 4month graduation schedule.

You should've done your homework before you started paying for these classes. Plus all you have to do is get your GED. Whats that, a 2 hour test. You can go to any local public library and schedule and appointment to take the test. If you need help all you have to do is ask. My sister, a single mom with an extremely busy schedule, managed to do this. Yeah she failed it twice before she finally passed but as long you apply yourself and prepare for the test, then you should be fine.

RMart:: Most of these people here are looking for information they obtained 10 years ago. I would think at 17 or 18 years old we were all in a completely different mind state and maybe did not know that we needed to make sure that the school we were attending and trusting for an education was not a valid school. I am sure now well onto our way of being 30 years old it frightens us all a bit to know that as adults we do not even have valid diplomas. I would say before throwing out accusations of we all should have could have you can show support to all of these people who are now struggling with the choices they made when they were younger and wish they had not made.

I have talked to both the Chicago and State school board. Unfortunetly, there is nothing they can do to obtain a copy of your records. Appearantly, because they did not know the school was going to just disappear, they never requested copies of their records, so now the school and our records are both gone. The only advice Springfield could give me was to contact the Attorney General, and to get my GED. Here is a link to the form the attorney general http://www.ag.state.il.us/consumers/conscomp.pdf. I don't know what is exactly being done, but maybe if enough of us send in these forms, something can happen. It won't give us records, and it won't validate the messed up school we all attended, but just maybe it will put the head of the school where he belongs. It's worth a try, right?

Take the GED test and be done with it.

I remember being told right from the beginning that there would be schools that would not accept a diploma obtained from Cosmopolitan. Upon graduation, my friend and I tested for admissions to Wright City College and were both offered a Dean’s scholarship with all of our classes paid for by the school. I never had trouble attending other schools but when my friend transferred to Loyola, he was required to take the GED test in order to continue his education. I hate to say it, but we have all heard the term “buyer beware” and I’ve said it before on this site, there were many red flags concerning faculty and curriculum at Cosmopolitan. If any of you attended college upon graduation, you can obtain your transcripts from that institution. For the rest of you, I feel sorry, but I encourage you to take the GED test and get on with your lives. Life is full of lessons and Cosmopolitan taught us one that we didn’t expect when we signed up for their classes. I’m happy to see that Channel 2 took the initiative to tell the story, but I wish they would have dug deeper and exposed those who were responsible for this mess.

The school was neither registered nor recognized by the Board of Education. We DO have records prior to 1981. PATRICK HURLEY from the Attorney General's Office needs information for law suit purposes and can be reached at 312-814-3000. i begged my parents to send me to this school so that i could finish early they gave me all the money and when i had a copy of my transcripts they told me that it still had to take some sort of test just for wright college... now i wanna try to get into NIU so I can do gen eds. for the nursing program and what do i have to do high school over in order to go to college?? I currently have a copy of an old transcript I actually got from Cosmo in the early 1990's. I have purchased a coporate seal to stamp my transcripts. This transcript has gotten me through college & a very nice job...all that require background checks. Hopefully, you can purchase a seal for $25, create your own transcripts & make it after all! I want my transcripts too. After all these years fighting to be the best you can or make of your self you find out you really did nothing at all. That shit hurt .It's like a knock up side the head . I'm very hurt.But I guess life goes on. So there I must go. I am a thirty year old single mother of an infant daughter. In light of current personal events, I now wish to further my education in order to make a better life for myself and my child. I attended Cosmopolitan Preparatory School from February to August of 1996 and recieved a "diploma". I've prided myself on the fact that I was able to obtain a grade point average of 3.8 while I was there. Now after reading all the emails posted about the school possibly not being accredited, I am absolutely devastated. It pains me to think that my diploma and g.p.a. could mean absolutely nothing and my time spent at this "school" was a complete and utter waste. Need transcripts you need to get in the lawsuit

I called today on behalf of my husband to the Attorney General and I was told that they are trying to do a lawsuit against Cosmopolitan Prep but people have to file a consumer Fraud complaint with the Attorney General @ 312-814-3000 there they will tell you how to file a complaint either online or by mail by filling out the form in their website. Hopefully we can all get together and get some action and compensation from this school so we can get what we all paid for an EDUCATION.

I'm sure that while dealing with this matter, your comment was not appreciated. Find another hobby, ok. Thank you. I work for a company that runs background checks and this website was very useful in explaining to the hiring party why we were unable to verify the diploma and why the applicant was unable to provide documentation.

We must no longer write about it. We need to do something about it I did not realize there were so many of us. I went to the school in 1984. yes 24yrs ago. If not I suggest we file a class-action against the State of Illinois. This so called school was accredited at one point. Which shows that the State allowed them to operate under false pretense after the school stopped filing. Forget the complaints, nothing will come of them. 	It’s ok for a school to choose not to participate in the accreditation process despite the enormous benefits of accreditation. Hi all! I too am a grad of Cosmo. Class of 68, back then the school was located at 116 S. Mich. ave. It was a good school then. The teachers were usually Law students from John Marshall Law School. The student population was mostly white kids (troubled youths from various other school systems) and middle class Blacks. The founder who also taught classes (Civics and Lit.) was a Carl P. Steiner he was self-published and wrote a book about Pres. Lincoln and the U.S. Constitution. Of course we (students) were required to buy a copy of his book for his class. Jennifer thats probably were the claim founded by CPS orginated from not Chgo. Public Schools. Cosmoplitan Prep. has never (even back then)been accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation. Though many of my class went on to college, grad school etc. A class action suit will not result in a remendy for your problem. You are dealing with a few nafarious and shady individuals. Small time hustlers which wouldn't yeild enough monies to solve your problem. Organize, find a nonprofit group with urban education concerns, i.e. churches, community groups. Who can/will insure that effected students of Cosmo Prep have obtained the level of High School education and can act has a clearinghouse for those Cosmo's Students trapped in this dilemma. I recently lost a copy of my Diploma on my way to a customer meeting. Do not ask me how it happeneD, it just simply disappeared. Anyhow, I came in contact with the ISBOE and they only could show me this letter. Date: May 20, 2008 TO: Whom It May Concern FROM: Chris Schmitt Division Supervisor Accountability Division RE: Cosmo Prep High School Cosmopolitan Preparatory School and Marin Preparatory School, which absorbed Cosmopolitan Prep, have closed as of June, 2005. There is no way to obtain records from Cosmopolitan Prep H.S. from the Illinois State Board of Education after 1981, as Cosmo Prep and Marin were never registered with our office. The only information we have regarding this private school is an address which was published in the Chicago Tribune. The article stated for students to write to the school at: PO Box 411376, Chicago, IL 60641. This PO Box is now closed. Should you need further information regarding other issues, please contact Lisa Teubner at 217/782-2948. Lisa Teubner ISBE Private Business and Vocational School Closed School Records My question is why are the records not available. Did the school burn them, did they lose access to the information and do not know where the data is at. What happened to the data. Did they throw it out not caring about the records. It is quite obvious that these people are SAVAGES and did not care about the accountability of the students whom would have to show proof of graduating. The only students that will be able to show proof after 1981 are those that took the initiative to regeister at a local college or University. As these academic resources may have copies of transcripts, diplomas....additionally, if you have at least an Associates that is proof all in its own that you graduated as there would be no possible way of obtaining one otherwise. Well I just contacted the Attorney General Office to discover there is no lawsuit just an investigation which can take years it’s obvious that they do not have enough consumer complaints or really not looking into this case. If you look at the early comments posted in 2005 that’s when former students of Cosmo started filing complaints with the Attorney General Office and look three years later nothing has changed. The best thing to do is try to obtain a GED which is really F’ed up but it’s been three years and no progression at all with this situation. I’ve tried to locate as much info as I can which is not much only thing I have is I contacted three teachers that was employed at Cosmo and as of now they are working with me to try to get more information. I attended cosmopolitan prep in 1998. I finished, received my diploma then went on into the military. I am now a SSG in the army and have been highly decorated with medals for my duty overseas and in the states. Unfortunately I needed a copy of some transcripts but there nowhere to be found. I investigated from A to Z. Get your G.E.D. people dont waste time. Cosmopolitan Prep is a phantom school. I had to obtain my G.E.D. so that I can have some type of high school or equivelent background. The reason the Cook County Sherriff's dont accept the diploma is because Cosmo Prep is not accredited by the state and because its primarily a school for drop outs and restarts. Since the sherriff's department is already full of gang bangers they are trying to contain there own people. The CPD does accept this diploma because they do an extensive background check. Colleges accept any diploma because regardless if you pass or fail the college receives money from the state and a tax credit for each student who attends. Attorneys have no say, no power, no nothing when it comes to battling this lost cause trust me I know, I had the top military J.A.G. officers work on my side. Dont waste your time get your G.E.D. its not hard at all. I walked in to the city colleges of chicago building on Jackson and Franklin to take the test and in one week they informed me I passed. It is not hard

OMG- Are you serious? I graduated from Cosmopolitan in 1987. I have been in school on and off since then. I've always kept a copy of my diploma and transcript. Until now, it has never been an issue. My unofficial copy of my transcript was sufficient. I've attended Northeastern Illinois University and Governor's State University...never a problem. I was there in the early 80's and have no idea where my transcripts are today. I graduated from Cosmo in 1982 and I was working a job. I just got a call this evening saying that they couldn't verify my transcript and I have been told don't come in tomorrow. I have an AA degree working on my BA, I have no idea how to get a copy of a transcript. Here is the deal...

The diploma and transcripts were both one in the same...FAKE! Everyone that is trying to obtain these, just don't even bother. Do as I did, get a G.E.D. go to college and at best...pray that the Attorney General does SOMETHING to at least get our money back or hell...even find a way to make our "diploma and transcripts" accredited. These people had me come in and work for them after I had missed too many days and got dropped from a class, that job was alphabetizing all of their student files... with that being said...every file from the early 1980's up til the year I "graduated" which was... I wanna say 2003 were completely gone. Now I found out some info about that...it seems as though the school has not been accredited since the early 1980's up until my graduate year. I also attended Cosmopolitan Prep School, at least that's what they called themselfs back when I attended and graduated back in 1982. For a while I misplaced my diploma and decided to try to locate information on the school so that I may obtain a copy, when to my surprise I see all of the comments of prior students for the past 20+ years have been on this site for the same purpose as me. After speaking with my daughter about this site and what was going on she mention to me that she know where my diploma was located. Sure enought I found it but what good does it do me if this paper is nothing but paper. I will be pursueing this matter to the fulliest and to the best of my ability. I will be contacting Patrick Hurley @ the Attorney General's Office & filling a Consumer Fraud Complaint. I will also be contacting Lisa Teubner @ (217)782-2948 to see if she has any further information on this matter. Cosmopolitan Prep?

I graduated from Cosmopolitan Prep in Jan 1982. I was able to attend college in Indiana but when I moved from Indiana and tranferred to Devry University I was in for a surprise, I was told my diploma was no good and that I hadd to take the GED test. I was in denial so I tried one of the city colleges and I was told the same. I swallowed my pride, studied and passed the GED and State Constitution test. I will tell everyone, do not take this so lightly. I had only a semester to graduate from high school but I decided to attend Cosmopolitan Prep so that I could graduate early due to a pregnancy. I could have stayed where I was, which was a Catholic High School and graduated from there but it was easier graduating early in terms of tuition and child care. These people have literally been a stumbling block to some, and have ruined others lives. There are some people who have lost their jobs because of this and probably some who have lost more than that. Please keep me updated on any and all actions against these people. It almost Destroyed me !

Man ! I felt 4 so long that I was the only person this happened 2 , it never occured 2 me about the others till I came across this site, I 2 attended Cosmopolitan Preparatory school back in 1997-98,at the age of 25yrs old it was the Absolute Proudest Time of my life ! I recieved my Diploma and transcript, I'm looking at it as I right this and I'm getting choked up, I then went on to attend Truman College for 3years then life got difficult so I had to work instead of finishing at the time so I did for 4years, so I decided it was time to go back to finish I wanted more out of life and I felt the only way to get it was to go back to school so I did I was at a point of feeling really unhappy with life but knowing I'm going back 2 school was encouraging for me, well. during enrollment I learned from the financial aid that my diploma was no longer exceptable that I had to go get a Ged in before I can enroll, I was Devastated ! I felt Violated, cheated, abused,etc. all those years, all that money I payed, I never wanted a Ged thats why I went there in the first place no disrespect towards getting a Ged but I wanted my High School diploma ! WE ARE GOING TO FIGHT THIS!

OK people listen up, we all ended up at this HS for one reason or any other and I think I thing we all have in common is that what ever the reason it was because we had some type of issue. So we end up going to this school thinking that we will get an education and that we will be able to start our lives over and get on the right track. I'm positive that we all have gotten on the right track but here we are finding ourselves with the past again and now it can really and it has for many affected their lives. So what do we do? Keep suggesting to each other to go to Wright or Truman to get our GED's? Some of us might have to just to make it a step closer to our goals in life. So WHAT DO WE DO?! We FIGHT back! Move On from cosmo nightmare

Im probably one of the oldest cosmo students. When I went in 1980 this School was on wabash and ran By an 80year old man MR. Steiner and mrs Huser. I left a four year highschool to attend cosmo Just because I wanted to graduate early. I went to college and now realize that Colleges now ask for high school transcripts so now I cant complete my education. Even after doing a realastate program the state wanted transcripts.Therefore my money for that was waisted. Trust me there is nothing a law suit could do because they leave no trace. Get your GED and move on. beware of Schools that are not accredited and remember IT IS LEGAL for them to operate. We have to ask for proof of them being Nationally accredited. They,re are lots of them that advertise on TV that are not accredited, BEWARE! from someone who knows and just happened to be surfing the net and found this sight.

No Diploma or Transcripts May Cost Me a GOOD Security Job

I am at a TOTAL SHOCK as I graduated from Cosmopolitan College Prep High School in August of 1986. I am desperately in need of my records as I have a Security Job in El Paso, TX and need my HS Diploma and Transcripts. Now, I cannot get anything whatsoever. Cosmopolitan used to be at 220 S. State Street and ran by a Dr. David Archer. If there is any help out there or if anyone has already started a class action lawsuit, please e-mail me as this is a total miscarriage of justice. I was 16 years old at the time and I later attended Columbia College to try to obtain credits and a degree in Photography and Photojournalism. Now,almost 26 years later, all the very hard work, attendance and achievements now seemed to be done for nothing for something that may now be worthless. If this school wasn't accredited, how can a SCHOOL be allowed to operate without the right credentials and WE as STUDENTS are coerced and put into these schools by our parents and must suffer because the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois had refused to do something about this years ago? It's unfortunate, but at age 16, you are a MINOR and have no say so. When something is planned by your parents, there are no ifs, ands, ors or nor buts. I hope that something is rectified soon as it seems unfair that all of us may have to resort into getting a GED or obtaining a High School Education elsewhere AFTER 26 YEARS!!!! THIS IS A LOWDOWN, DIRTY SHAME!

Thanks George. I see that Dean Hickstein has an article about my science teacher, Bob Laurence, who was abducted by space aliens. He is one teacher that I'll NEVER forget. He had shot off a roll of Kodak High Speed Infrared film and had me process the film as he supposedly have caught some paranormal activity around his house. I only processed the negatives as I didn't have a decent working enlarger at that time. My mother became suspicious of him as he came to our home on the South Side of Chicago to get the negatives. She became concerned as he asked if there was anyone else in the house with me, which seemed odd for an adult to be asking a minor. Anyway, on top of my scores I had already, he had given me extra credit as I guess it wasn't everyday that he would find somebody this young that attended school that knew how to develop and process film. The part I am amazed with is that in 1987 or 1988, Bob Laurence was interviewed by ABC Channel 7 News (WLS) about his space alien abductions. I wish there is someone out there that knows or remembers that TV interview and can possibly track him down as there must be someway into finding out where everyone has taken off to. I have nothing against Mr.Laurence, but I think that this man holds a valuable key into finding Dr. David Archer and the other faculty members that took off with our monies, our records and OUR LIVES! Now, what the hell am I supposed to do as I feel that 23 years of my life has been robbed of many opportunites without even knowing why. When will we all get any justice? This is why I hate Chicago and the State of Illinois. People are afraid of change, they keep re-electing the same morons back into office, like Dastardly Dick Daley and other incompetent politicians. The city goes after the law abiding citizens instead of the criminals when it comes to using self defense. I left there 9 years ago and it seems as if I am cursed to that place as Chicago is a place I want to forever forget. Dastardly Dick Daley hasn't done anything pertaining to those hundreds who has died during the Heatwave of 1995 as my mother died as a result with an extremely slow response time by the EMT's. All of my family is now deceased and I feel so lost. I've been a truck driver for nearly a decade. Now that freight is slow and many companies are not recruiting as often, I try another alternative. My Letter To Barack Obama

Good Evening Mr. President, I write to you today as I need to find out if there is any legislation against fake schools issuing High School diplomas. Myself and many other students cannot obtain our Diplomas or Transcripts as we cannot obtain any jobs. One school in particular is Cosmopolitan College Prep High School in Chicago. I attended in 1997. I have a master's degree from UIC so I refuse to think my time there was worthless, obviously I got something out of it. (Yes, some of the teachers were strange.) The State of Illinois was irresponsbible to allow them to operate. I am looking for a state job possibly and wonder if they will need this stupid transcript. For those of you looking to get your transcripts and dipolmas from this school good luck trying. Quit wasting your time looking for this school and start looking for other solutions to graduate high school. I also attended this school and I feel your pain that you paid all that money to graduate from high school and only to find out later on that you're not a high school graduate. Well, I found out a alternative school not located in the state of Illinois. The school is called: Continental Academy. The school is accredited. And is located in the state of Florida. It's a home school program. You're going to have to paid the tuition to attend. But at least you'll be a high school graduate. The reason I know, is because I did some research on this school and I made sure this school was accredited. And it doesn't take long to get your diploma. It all depends on you. Give me some feedback.

Just now see this site after searching for 'Cosmopolitan Prep Chicago'. I graduated from there in 1974 after attending 3 other high schools. I remember Mr. Steiner as a great lecturer and learned much from him. Yea... I even caught a few of his hurling 'Thomas Jeffersons'. I went on to Chicago City Colleges and then to be accepted to University of Chicago. After perusing other interests, I recently got my bachelors degree from NEIU. My experience there was very good and it took me out of unsuitable environments of other schools. Even if the school was not accredited... so what? Did you learn there? I did. Just take a simple GED and forget it. Most $chool i$ a big corrupt joke anyway. Life i$ more than $$$$$.

I actually graduated in 1982, if you can call it that. Here is something I found out. I attended Northeastern after cosmo they had a copy of my cosmo transcript and sent it to me with my Northeastern transcripts. However the college I want to attend said they couldn't except them comming from Northeastern. The good news is that with credit hours from an acredited University like Northeastern they will except a letter from the closed schools of Illinois contact (#217-782-2948)that the school is closed and no transcripts can be located.For me it means I can finish college and finally get my degree. You might try like I did arguing the point that a University would not have let me in roll with out a high school diploma.I am now inrolled at the University of Florida. At some point cosmo was an accedited school I think that ended around 1982. I know that because I applied at University of Chicago, Roosevelt and Northeastern and was excepted at all 3. As of july 1982 they were acredited. Good luck to all. p.s keep filing with Att. General when they have enough complaints they will take action.

Possible Help

Found out that the Illinois Board of Education has copies for anyone who graduated from 1981 and prior (But I didn't go into details about how to obtain since i graduated in 93). I was trying to get as much information as possible. The school was registered with the state until 1981 and the first owner provided the state with documents of students that attended, then the owner sold the school. The second owner (after 1981) didn't register the school with the state so of course, the state doesn't have any documents for students after that year. However, the person I talked to said she would mailed me a letter stating that they didn't have transcripts after 1981. She said if I show the letter to the college that i attended they may be able to provide me with a copy of my high school transcipts. I'm going to try that hopefully it works. She also suggested that i may want to get my GED to have that under my belt. God bless and i hope someone is helped.

I was able to obatin my transcripts from Marin in 2002 after graduating . The problem is we can go to college . Upon startin I was given a list of colleges that accepts the trans and dipolma.The president did advise that you will not be able to get into the military or law enforcement. At that time they were still waiting to receive their license after being accredited by the state . I was able to recieve the info for Marin from the Board of Education actually .I wish that I could help other obtain their transcripts but it was so long ago..However I will get the school code off of some old paper work and post it

that is what happen when going to a FOR PROFIT SCHOOL. However, did you guys take a state exam? If yes, you should have received a state license. Simply print the requirements of the state license for example: 1000 credits to be approved for state test and attach it. You can ask the state to print classes required for graduation, so it would prove u took certain classes and the required hours, since u state licensed DOH

YOU all are wrong. sometimes what happens: when the school started, it got accredidation. It does not mean anything more than it fulfills the requirements set forth to be accredited. The school needs to renew it after couple years, whre the the board checks for accreditation. If not, they wont accredite the schhol for renewal. The school can be easily run without accreditation like University of Phoenix before, when it lost accreditation and got reinstated. Accredited is your own research to do. The school to opreate is not required to be accredited. It just in the students interest. check out accreditation at wikipedia and what it means. It is nothing more, that is not required, but helps school to prove students a certain standard. When the business close, they would not care much what happens after. It is like a restaurant. U should have attended a state school.

High School Transcripts

I attended this school because I was going to go into the Airforce. My parents have NO idea where my transripts are, They are lost with my original birth certificate, baby items, home school documents etc. I have been dealing with this PROBLEM for years when I went to apply for a City job. I spoke with the State education department and they informed me there is nothing I can do except file a class action law suit and hope for the best in a few years. The school was Registered with the state but NOT accredited, so not even sure if it would count. Also, the State only has transcripts prior to 1981. So........ What I decided to do recently was go back to the school that I attended for my Freshman thru Junior years and take remaining classes to get ANOTHER diploma. This is your only option - Attend ADULT Education school to get a diploma I already earned. SAD, but true!!!

Transcrpits/Entering College for 2nd time

I graduated in 1992 and I got a hard copy and transcript for Cosmopolitan prep. I moved to Iowa and I asked the registration people to get it for me. I was told that the school never paid their bills, so none of us can get a diploma, BUT IT IS VALID. Stop letting people tell you it's not valid. I called CPS and they will tell you that it's not valid ONLY because the school didnt pay their bill. Not sure what it cost now, But it cost me $150 in 2003 to get a copy of everything from CPS. That's the ONLY way theu would give it to me with CPS imprint on it to validate it. Yes, WE spent a lot of money to attend this school and they screwed us, and we have to pay even more to get what we need. It paid off for me, but good luck to everyone else. If a lawsuit does come about, I'm in...because I want all...ALL (even from CPS) my money back. I worked 2 jobs and had 2 kids to pay for this school. Going on to get my RN now.....GOOD LUCK ALL!

CPS contributed to my BA

I thought the school was fine. I enjoyed my classes and after finishing I received a BA from DePaul. Actually, I started at Columbia College, they accepted the diploma with no problem, and then I transferred to DePaul (not sure if DePaul would accept the transcript). Unfortunately, I didn't know the school was not accredited, but I am surprised since all my courses were standard with a traditional high school. Such as reading the Great Gatsby, science projects (which I did on HIV/AIDs) and the US constitution exam, which is a requirement for a GED or high school diploma. I hope something works out for all of you!

	16 credits away from my BFA and come to find out my diploma from Cosmopolitan was not an Illinois accredited school. This one completly caught me off guard. I've done great for myself over the years but I refuse to get my GED after I'm so close to getting a BFA.

Help!

This is the worst feeling ever. I have already received 30 credit hours from college and I can't believe I cannot go on to another college unless I can produced a High School Diploma. I graduated from Cosomopolitan Preparatory 20 years agao. I paid and I passed the courses and now only to find that this place crooked-crooks! This is not right or fair to us and somnebody with POWER should advocate for us! This is rediculous!

this is a crock all day long...how is it in this day and time that educational institutes are allowed to legally swindle people seeking education??? this is extremely unacceptable and should've been handled...I feel that ISBE dropped the ball on this matter simply because it was a way to profit off of thousands of peoples misfortune...It is very simple to say go back to get a GED but the principle of the matter is that THIS IS WRONG!!!!We payed for and attended this school being told that this diploma was recognized and accredited through ISBE,otherwise who would knowingly pay for education they could not use in the future???
