My son Kyle is 13 and in the 8th grade. He attended Comstock Middle School. He has been expelled for 180 days. He and another boy from a different school brought a gun to a football game. There wasn't any intentions of using the gun and they made no threats. They had it in their possession because they took it from a neighbors house that was unlocked and then an hour later they walked to the game where I was waiting for them. They didn't want to leave it at their houses because someone could find it. Kyle wasn't caught with the gun, but when asked about it the following day at school, he did confess. I am arguing with the district about my requests made in writing for Special Ed testing in the past couple of years that were not followed through with. They state his IQ is to high and his MEAP scores were a 2. Kyle has ADHD and takes medication daily. He has failed the 6th and 7th grade and still placed into the 8th grade because of his "chronological age." I am arguing that they knew of this disability and offered little support and no testing. They implemented a check in check out sheet with daily progress reports that didn't work out. This was the only assistance they provided. I am pursuing this with our education attorney. Kyle is a good kid. He is easily influenced by others and he is easily distracted and needs some accommodation made for his education. He has learned his lesson and he knows that he made bad choices. He still may have to face charges in the juvenile court. He has been out of school for 6 weeks now and is eager to get back into school. All area public schools have turned us down. If this is something you could help us with please let us know ASAP. Sincerely, Kristine Godden 269-382-2519
