concern for student |
|
Hello, I am the Grandma of a wonderful young man, named Ryan Brito. He attentds Bowdish Middle School. For years he has struggled with being a loner and not having friends or fitting in. Along with this, is the treatment he gets from immediate family! It makes me so sad to hear all the horrible things he is beig called by his Dad and his live-in girlfriend! For years Ryan has been called, "Stupid!" "Retard!" 'Idiot!" and other names I WILL NOT REPEAT! Ryan has basically built a wall around himself for protection, and consequently
this means hours and hours of seclusion down in his room doing nothing productive by playing video games and watching movies! His grades have continued to plummet, and his anti-social behavior is very evident, but mostly at home. There is a reason he hides away down in his room, sometimes so log that he actually "forgot to eat anything that day being so involved with video games he just forgot!" Now you would THINK ANY CONCERNED adult in the home would NOTICE OR be concerned enough to at least go check on him.....but that does not happen at Ryan's house! Ryan is the only boy, and acts more like a girl than his two sisters. I feel it may be his way of trying to get attention or just maybe because he hasn't had ANY Fatherly influence in his life! Dad's life is his job. All the kids can tell you that. Anyway, Ryan desperately needs to talk with a good school counselor! We talked about it a little bit, and Ryan is not going to be the one to initiate the visit, saying "he is embarrassed." But I know if "ivited" to come chat he would be open to that! Someone has to step in and fast. Ryan has been "acting out" for attention in very negative ways: withdrawing to avoid verbal and emotional abuse; attempting to set things on fire in the garage; throwing his clothes away and/or wearing the same pants, shirt and underwear for a week or more!; not having any friends; getting D's and F's when he used to get good grades!
I have worked for over 11 years in Richland schools and I see ALL to clearly first-hand the students who would benefit from positive/ encouraging intervention by someome who cares! My son-in-law will not be the one to suggest Ryan needs some help.....he is too proud for that, and besides that would show he is not a good father if his son is IN FACT HAVING ALL THESE DIFFICULTIES! So PLEASE will this heart-felt plea be forwarded to the appropriate person(s) to get things moving in the right direction?!!?!?! I love my Grandson so very much and he has experienced nothing but pain most of his life by the thngs said to him from dad and now sister's are picking-up the sick trend! Very unacceptable and sick, and if someone doesn't take a step I am afraid of what the near future holds for Ryan! Now keep in mind Ryan will put up a smoke screen and come across like things are OK and he's doing alright. DO NOT LET THAT FOOL YOU! He is a very hurt, sad young man who has basically "escaped to his own little world" as a means to somehow avoid teh pain of his reality.
Thank you for your attention! Feel free, in fact I ask that you do, contact me regarding this. My email is pbrownlee@hotmail.com or you can reach me at school at

Thank you again!
